Phelps County Dream Center, formerly Phelps County Faith Distribution, is a local, volunteer-based, Christian organization that serves the area population in need with groceries and other items. Our mission is to assist families in moving toward food security and generational self-sufficiency, compelled by the love of Jesus Christ.
In 2022, the organization became officially affiliated with the international Dream Center Network and changed its name to Phelps County Dream Center to reflect its goal to help families and individuals in need of a better future see their dreams come true. Services are expanding to include cooking classes, financial classes, and other skills training for self-sustainability. The new Dream Center facility includes, in addition to a food warehouse, a commercial, shared-use kitchen; two classrooms, and lobby/reception area, with availability for use by the community.
Organized as a separate faith-based, 501c3 organization in 2006, the originally efforts began as an outreach of Grace Church in Rolla, Mo., in March 1999. Distributions of USDA donated foods and Feeding America groceries to those in need have been ongoing every month since then through its partnership with The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.
Members from the community comprise a local leadership board, led by founding members David Hagni, Diane Hagni and Gerald Dowdy. Carl Mathews is an emeritus founding member, Carol Creighton is the organization's volunteer coordinator, and Mark Potrafka, Carol Moorkamp, Mark Wood and Gina Wood also serve on the board.
